Petropak is a new entrant in the Tanzanian Market as a manufacturer, dealer and marketer of Metal Drums and Plastic storage apparatus.While Petropak was incorporated in 2013, it was inactive until it was taken over by the Petro Group in an attempt to expand their base in the country and get involved in the industrial drive supported by the current administration. The group is promoted by experienced and seasoned veterans with a very strong presence in East, Central and Southern Africa. Petropak has a well-equipped manufacturing facility spread across 14,000 sqft in Mbagala Industrial Area with state-of-the-art machinery.
The Company aims to provide an alternative to the food and agricultural sector which has not seen any major innovations in recent years, thereby making Tanzanian food exports globally acceptable and more presentable. Although Tanzania has a Drum Manufacturing unit, the quality is often substandard to tap into the potential of Food Grade quality requirement for both Tanzania and its neighbouring countries. The output quantity at various industries is controlled to inflate the prices which creates an artificial requirement for importation which further increases the dependency of this nation on importation. The high costs of these finished drums in the local market makes it too difficult for other traders to be competitive when using these drums for exporting items to neighbouring countries.
Petropak will essentially deal with agricultural and petroleum sector by providing an alternative for packaging and transport of agro-products as well as a better-quality alternative for storage and movement of petroleum products.In addition to the Metal factory being set up, a Plastic industry is expected to be started by early 2022 and production is expected to begin during the 1st Quarter of 2022. Under the scope, it is expected to cater not just the food industry but also the lubricant and fuel industry which has a constant demand for the product.
Benefits to the Nation
Petropak aims to start the manufacturing of food grade steel drums and plastic jerry cans. These metal drums can be used for storing various cash crops exported out of Tanzania such as Processed Cashews, Cassava by-products, Honey, various Pulses and Fruits, and other exports.
Rather than using the current paper and polythene apparatuses, metal and plastic drums can ensure the longevity of the goods as well as maximize usage of space. Since, these apparatuses will be reusable it will provide savings over time. In addition to this, the low carbon content of the CRCA sheet, in addition to its reusable and recyclable nature, reduces its environmental impact. This is also a very sustainable model for the environment.With the country, currently looking at protecting the environment, a switch to metal and plastic storage containers will be in line with the vision of the current administration.
